- Surface preparation: The surface to be coated must be thoroughly cleaned and prepared before applying microcement. Any loose debris, dust or grease must be removed and the surface must be smooth and free of any irregularities.
- Primer application: A primer is applied to the surface to improve adhesion and provide a uniform base for the microcement. The primer is usually applied in two coats, with a drying time of a few hours between coats.
- Microcement application: Once the primer is dry, the microcement is mixed with water to form a smooth paste. The paste is then applied to the surface using a trowel, and smoothed out to create an even layer. Depending on the desired thickness and finish, multiple coats may be required, with each coat being allowed to dry before applying the next.
- Sanding and polishing: Once the microcement has cured, it is sanded to create a smooth and even surface. The surface is then polished to create a glossy or matte finish, depending on the desired outcome.
- Sealing: The final step is to seal the microcement to protect it from water damage, staining and general wear and tear. A clear sealant is applied to the surface, which also helps to enhance the color and finish of the microcement.
